When creating your mechanical engineer resume, keep it focused - don't clutter it with skills or experience that don't relate to the job. Extracurricular activities like drama club or being captain of your high school soccer team, hobbies like photography, or that summer job as a lifeguard at a water park won't enhance your value as an engineer.



If you're applying for your first job, it's okay to mention extracurricular activities or part-time work-but only if it's relevant and adds something meaningful. For example, leading a science club at school, converting 2D blueprints into 3D models as a part-time job, or helping to maintain a water filtration system at a water park could score points with a hiring manager.


⚠️ Exception: If you are applying for your first job, you can only list extracurricular activities or side jobs if they are relevant. For example:

- Leading a school science club.

- Converting 2D drawings into 3D models as a part-time job.

- Helping to operate or replace a water filtration system at a water park, etc.


Other Things to Avoid

Margins
