TOP Certifications for Engineers Seeking Job Overseas
Hey guys, in this article we will talk about what professional certificates you can obtain and how it can help you in employment with international companies.
So, what international certificates can you obtain? I would highlight 2 main categories: general certificates applicable to all engineers and professional certificates applicable to specific professions.
Examples of general certifications include P.Eng – Professional Engineer in Canada, P.E. – Professional Engineer in the USA, CEng – Chartered Engineer and IEng – Incorporated Engineer – which are also professional engineers but in the UK, CPEng - Chartered Professional Engineer - professional engineer in Australia and New Zealand, and other similar certifications in different countries that any engineer can obtain regardless of their profession.
Each certification can be talked about in detail, but I will briefly mention that to become a professional engineer, for example, in Canada and the USA, you need to live and work in these countries, have education and work experience, as well as pass serious exams.
Perhaps the easiest and most accessible way to obtain a Chartered Engineer in the UK. You don't need to go anywhere, everything is done online, and you can live in any country and be a citizen of any country.
But this doesn't mean that everything will be easy. This is also a process, which consists of evaluating your education, experience, evaluating the compliance of your level with the required competencies, and passing in person or video interview with other professional engineers.
In many countries, especially in Arab countries and companies, candidates with such certifications are highly preferred, you can see this in many job descriptions. They also like members of various professional international engineering communities, for example, I am a member of the British Institution of Mechanical Engineers.
So what are certifications for specific professions? There are many professional communities in the world, usually such communities have their accreditation and issue professional certificates.
For example, the PMP - Project Management Professional certification is conducted by the Project Management Institute (PMI), an association of professionals in the field of project management.
Or another certification, Certified Professional Geologist (CPG), is conducted by the American Institute of Professional Geologists.
Certified Reliability Engineer (CRE) or Certified Reliability Leader (CRL) - these are professional certifications for reliability engineers. By obtaining such certification, you demonstrate to the employer your level of knowledge, experience, and competencies, which have already been verified and confirmed by professional communities, organizations, and associations.
You can also watch some of my videos about certifications for Mechanical Engineer and Drilling Engineer/Supervisor.
On one hand, all these certifications are not easy to obtain, they are not given out left and right, but thousands of engineers from all over the world used to obtain them so that you can do it too!
Professional certifications are not just badges of honor or credentials next to your name; they're passports to new opportunities and professional growth. Whether you're a seasoned engineer looking to enhance your skill set or a recent graduate eager to stand out in a competitive job market, investing in certifications can set you on the path to success. So, seize the moment, embark on your certification journey, and watch as doors of opportunity swing open before you. And remember, the only limit to what you can achieve is the extent of your determination and drive. So, go forth, conquer new horizons, and let your certifications be the guiding stars that illuminate your path to success.
